This 24″ spinning suitcase from Italian designer Mia Toro is well-crafted from Armor-flex composite material. The exterior has a speckled canvas finish that reduces the appearance of abrasions. The finish is also easy to wipe down and sanitize.

It looks like an expensive suitcase and has the sophisticated flare that you would expect from an Italian design. Neutral colors are beautiful and understated, making this a piece that could easily compliment your other luggage.

Everything about the Versapack is designed to hold up during travel. The exterior is made from an exceptionally durable fabric called ballistic nylon. The extension handle is solid, even when fully extended. Let’s not forget the wheels. They are double-wheeled magnetic spinner wheels, which keeps them gliding straight. And smooth, so smooth. The wheels make it feel like you’re driving a luxury car.

An external USB port connects to a battery pack if you’d like, so that you can easily charge your phone or tablet as needed. The battery pack can just be pulled out when going through airport security.

External pockets work great for quickly storing a small laptop, tablet, or toiletries. This is very helpful, because when going through security it can be a hassle to open your carry-on luggage to take out your electronics and toiletries.

As is more common these days, the suitcase unzips on the top instead of in the middle (also known as a clam-shell design). To me, this is the only way to go. It allows for you to pack deeper and utilize packing cubes better. It also makes it so much easier to open the suitcase as there’s nothing to fall out.

A unique feature about the Travelpro Versapack is a removable zip-in compartment/divider that attaches to the interior’s top section. The zip-in compartment that comes with the suitcase is a garment organizer, which could store some nicer items that you don’t want wrinkled. By having them zipped into the top, there shouldn’t be any weight sitting on them, pressing wrinkles into the fabric – smart.

You can purchase additional zip-in organizers to use with the suitcase. There are several to choose from. One is designed more for a suit, others for dirty or wet laundry, and yet another for smaller items.

The Versapack is available in a variety of sizes. We reviewed the 20″ model here, but it also comes in a 21″ carry-on, a medium 25″ checked bag size, and a large 29″ version. You can also purchase the luggage as a 2 or 3 piece set for usually a lower price than buying individually.

Every aspect of Travelpro’s Versapack is built for durability. The fabric is a high-density “ballistic” nylon. Sounds tough, huh? Ballistic nylon was actually originally engineered to protect soldiers from shrapnel. So although your luggage may not be exposed to shrapnel, we all know how much abuse they can take when being tossed around. This fabric, along with the corner guards, should keep the suitcase going strong for years.

Other very durable features are the super sturdy, powerscope extension handle and double spinner wheels. This is important, as even many suitcases that cost $100-$200 will sometimes have an extension handle that doesn’t feel sturdy enough.

The Crew Versapack suitcase isn’t cheap. The 20″ carry-on that we are reviewing usually goes for around $250. That being said, few suitcases can match the durability and shear quality of the Versapack. The wheels glide like butter and the different zip-in dividers is brilliant. If you are looking for luggage that will last you for years and won’t disappoint, then the Crew Versapack is for you.

For great durability but less features, you have the balanced Samsonite Centric, a fan favorite at half the price of the Versapack. Or if you need something just to get by and money is really tight, the AmazonBasics Hardside luggage is also a great choice. But you get what you pay for. And the Travelpro Versapack has some 1000 5-star reviews for a reason – it’s worth it.

Sharp, modern, and nearly futuristic looking. The Samsonite Freeform is lightweight, strong and looks cool. But how function is it and how does it hold up?

We gave it an A rating, as it’s a well-rounded and excellent product. For all the details, read our in-depth review below.

The Samsonite Freeform is crafted from of injection molded polypropylene. This is a material know for being durable and incredibly lightweight. This 21″ is just over 6 pounds!  This material is also moisture resistant, so you won’t have to fret about your luggage contents getting wet. As far as aesthetics go, the shell has a ribbed design, with the Samsonite logo placed in the middle. It looks contemporary and clean giving it an heir of sophistication. The ripping is more than just a pretty face though, it adds to the durability of the piece as well.

For the closure, the Freeform is equipped with a sturdy zipper. It also has a second zipper to allow for expansion. The TSA lock is a dial style to keep your luggage contents safe and secure.

The telescopic handle is smartly equipped with a button that locks the position of the handle when pressed. It can be locked to different heights, so everyone it’s adjustable to the users height and preference. There are also 2 carry handles, on the top and side of the suitcase.

The Samsonite Freeform comes in 5 different colors; white, black, navy, sage green and tangerine. I love the clean look of the white case, however I would worry it wouldn’t stay clean, because obviously white things have a hard time staying white. The sage green, is a lovely soft color with a shine. Tangerine is definitely the most bold color, it’s a bright and vibrant orange that would easily stand out in a sea of luggage.

When you open up the Samsonite Freeform, you get two fabric lined packing compartments. The bottom compartment has elastic cross compression straps for keeping your things tidy and in place. Along with that there is a small single zippered pocket. The pocket is an inclusion placed with users in mind, excellent for jewelry or smaller items.

As for the top compartment, it can be fully closed off with a zippered divider. I love when bags include this because you don’t have to worry about about anything falling out! In addition there is a well placed large zippered pocket on the divider, which you can use for any items you want to keep separate.

As mentioned this bag also has the capacity to be expandable, which for me is a must in any luggage. If you pack wisely, it wouldn’t be hard to pack for a week’s trip with this carry-on.

The Samsonite Freeform comes in 3 sizes. The 21″ carry-on I’m reviewing, a 24″ and the largest at 28″.

The shell of this luggage is extremely lightweight and offers exceptional resistance to impact. As with most Samsonite luggage, it is built for longevity. 

This case is also very easy to clean and wipe down. Minor scuffs may occur but users report they typically buff out. 

The Samsonite Freeform can very easily be found on Amazon for around $160 or less, depending on what kind of sale you find. With all the great features this bag has to offer, in 5 different colors it really is a great buy.

Also included is a 10 year limited warranty! Although Samsonite products are rigorously tested to ensure their products meet stringent standards. This bag comes with a 10-year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship.

The Samsonite Aspire xLite looks largely like your standard softside suitcase, with the exception of the two-toned color design. But the luggage actually has some nice features that surprise, along with the well-known Samsonite durability. This review is also a little unique in that it’s a 2 suitcase luggage set.

The exterior of the Aspire is stylish but yet rugged and durable. The steel-wire frame and tough poly fabric allow it to withstand the rough handling common on a flight.

Spinner wheels all the way around make the Aspire xLite glide smoothly. The study retractable handle helps with guiding the suitcase when on its wheels and is solid.

I personally am not a huge fan of exterior pockets, as I feel the space tends to be often wasted. You tend to only put small things that can’t break there, or where you just shove a last minute clothing item or papers. But a single item can make the exterior pockets bulge enough so the luggage is too wide for a carry-on. Exterior pockets are pretty much on all softside luggage, though. So the Aspire is just following tradition here. And if you are using the 25″ suitcase where the extra width won’t matter (provided it’s not over the weight limit) then it can be a welcome feature.

Padded top and side handles are a nice feature as it makes lifting the luggage in and out of a vehicle much easier.

And as always, Samsonite has some solid quality zippers on the suitcase. They should hold up for the life of the luggage.

The Aspire doesn’t come in a large array of colors, but thankfully it has more than just a plain black.

The colors are: Blue Dream, Red, and Black. Both the blue and red colors are 2-toned with black accents.

I love this style of top loading. Instead of a suitcase that opens down the middle with equal sections, the top only has some internal organizing pockets.

This allows you to actually take fuller advantage of the space having more depth to pack on the bottom side of the suitcase. Packing cubes work great with this design.

The top portion has 2 pockets. One has a mesh to breathe and the other is a plastic which makes it great for toiletries or items you are afraid could leak.

On the bottom side of the suitcase are cross straps, so your items will stay in place. Again, packing cubes make this work even better!

The Aspire can be purchased in 20″, 25″, and 29″. They can be bought individually or as a 2-piece or 3-piece set.

It’s important to note that the 20″ is actually 21.6″ tall if you include the wheels. The 25″ is 27.2″ with the wheels. And lastly, the 29″ is 31″ with wheels.

It’s a Samsonite. End of story!

Samsonite has a reputation for durability and the Aspire meets that reputation with solid wheels, a study retractable handle, smooth zippers, and a durable 680D polyester fabric.

Samsonite is typically on the pricier side as they are well-built and meant to last. You get what you pay for usually.

However, compared to many of Samsonite’s other suitcase models, the Aspire xLite is definitely one of the more affordable options. This is even more so when you purchase their 20″ and 25″ luggage as a set versus buying them individually. We give the price on the Aspire a beautiful A+!

Traveling on a budget can take a lot of brain power. The expenses can easily overwhelm anyone. So let’s start with the basics… luggage. Right away, you can add some extra bucks to your vacation fund by opting for a cheap suitcase. But is it really worth the risk?

The AmazonBasics hardside luggage is made from 100% Abs, making it very lightweight and easy to clean. The finish on this carry-on is textured and has ridges which prevent cracking when other luggage is placed on-top on this piece. It is a simple, minimalist bag that is versatile and modern in appearance.

It has an aluminum telescoping push button handle, which feels somewhat sturdy for light use, but too flimsy for a lot of tugging or twisting. In addition there are top and side plastic handles.

The zippers feel pretty robust for a budget bag. There is an expandable option controlled by an extra zipper set, which when expanded it adds about an extra inch of packing space.

The AmazonBasics luggage currently comes in four colors: Black, Blue, Navy Blue, Orange

The black and navy blue are the most versatile and professional looking, while the blue is more of a bright pop color. The orange is definitely a bold choice that will stand out in a crowded airport or train station.

upon flipping open the clam shell of the suitcase, we have two main compartments. The bottom compartment has elastic tie down straps to prevent your items from shifting.

On the other side, the top compartment has a zippered divider with three zippered pockets for any smaller items you want to keep separate, like jewelry, underwear or power cords. The pockets are a nice touch for keeping your bag organized.

The interior is fully lined with durable light grey 150-D polyester which is soft to the touch. 150-D polyester known to be strong, so it’s unlikely you will have any tears in the interior lining.

The AmazonBasics hardside luggage comes in three sizes: the 21″ carry-on, the medium sized 26″, and the large 30″.

All three sizes have the same exterior and interior features. You can purchase all three as a set, or buy each piece separately.

At this price point I wouldn’t expect a whole lot to be honest.

So when it comes to durability the the AmazonBasics hardside luggage is a budget bag and not going to be the most sturdy bag on the market. The ABS shell while easy to clean and lightweight, is prone to cracking. In addition, the push button handle is know to be a bit flimsy as it’s made from thin aluminum.

With that said if you’re a light traveler, or only traveling by car this is a good budget bag. As a carry-on, you don’t usually have to deal with other bags being stacked on top of your luggage, so it’s going to hold up better. I would really worry more about this bag in the larger sizes that will be checked at an airport. There’s just no telling what’s happening when other people are handling your luggage.

At just around $50 on Amazon, this is one of the cheapest pieces of carry-on luggage you can find. 

So if you’re a light traveler or just want something cheap for an overnight or weekend bag this is a good bag for you. However, for longer trips or rougher travelers, this isn’t a bag we’d expect to last for very long.

The American Tourister Moonlight carry-on is an expandable hardside luggage with spinner wheels. The spunky designs make it unique among the thousands or more bags at a crowded airport. And there are 7 different trendy patterns to choose from.

There is a sturdy retractable handle on top, that opens and closes with ease. There are also non-retractable handles on the top and side. The handles seem to be very strong, and look like they will hold up well.

I’m usually running through the airport because my layover is too short…or I lose track of time in the perfume store sampling the scents. So, as I’m dashing through, it’s helpful that the American Tourister Moonlight carry-on has 4 smooth gliding wheels to keep up with me.

The exterior has a nice glossy finish or textured finish depending on the style you choose. Either can be easily wiped down and sanitized.

There are 7 different colors/ patterns to choose from. They are called: rose gold, marble, purple storm, palm trees, ascending garden rose gold, teal blue, and popsicle.

Finished with a textured feel are the rose gold, garden rose gold, and the palm trees print. The rest have a glossy finish, and the teal blue has a brushed look rather than a solid color. So really their is something for everyone!

For organizing purposes, which I always need help with, I love the interior of this American Tourister Moonlight Carry-On. It has zippered pockets inside which help a lot to sort things and keep everything from shifting.

On one side there is a mesh zippered section that spans the length of the bag, so you can securely separate items. I especially like when carry-on’s have the little pocket in the middle. It’s great for smaller things or things you don’t want seen if TSA is ruffling through you bag with dozens of onlookers.

Opposite the zipped side there is a crisscross elastic band. That’s always a nice feature because when you open up the bag mid-flight, everything doesn’t go falling out. The lining inside is soft to the touch and has a fun pattern too that’s complimentary to the exterior.

American Tourister Moonlight Expandable Hardside Luggage comes in 3 sizes. The 20″ I’m reviewing, as well as a medium checked bag size 24″ and the large 28″. You can even purchase all 3 as a set on Amazon. 

Because the American Tourister Moonlight carry-on is so cheap I thought it might also feel cheap. But it actually feels very stable and durable.

It’s made of ABS, which I’ve had several pieces of luggage in the same material. It always seems to hold up well without cracking or breaking.

It is carry-on luggage, which is meant for a few days’ worth of clothes. Packing more than that could cause the zipper to stretch too far and break. It seems like some have packed it too much and posted about broken zippers. But for this low price, you can’t treat the bag like a Samsonite. It should be used for what it’s designed for and not overloaded.

Unfortunately, most hardside suitcases do get scratched over time. What I like about this case though, is that the abstract patterns hide scratches easier than solid colors would. Scratches are inevitable especially with a cheaper material, but at least they aren’t too noticeable on this carry-on. A small concession to save $100 over mid-grade luggage options.

An economy price often brings an economy design and bad durability. But I must say that I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of construction for such an affordable carry-on.
